Despite being a dreaded queen, she showed mercy in some cases. She was a feared goddess that mortals invoked the name Persephone in curses. Persephone dwelt half of her life in the underworld as a goddess though little is taught of her life above the ground. After the deal was made, Demeter agreed to restore earth’s fertility and returned to Mount Olympus. They all accepted that Persephone will spend half of the year in the underworld as a goddess and the rest of the year with her mother Demeter. Iseult Gillespie shares the myth of the goddess of spring. He wrenched Persephone from Cyane, dragged her into his inky chariot, and blasted back through the earth. Suddenly, the earth split, and a terrifying figure arose. As they admired a flower, they noticed it tremble in the ground. Rhea who was the mother to Zeus, Demeter and Hades gave them an option that they all accepted since by eating the seed, Persephone had made a deal of remaining in the underworld. One day, Persephone was frolicking in a meadow with the nymph, Cyane. It was understood that if one took food from the underworld, the person was to remain in the place or spent a given time of the year in the place. Hades agreed to let Persephone leave but he gave her some food from the underworld. Demeter’s condition was that Persephone was to be brought back to her leaving Zeus with no choice but to return the princess. Zeus reacted by sending a parade of to goddess Demeter to beg her restore earth’s fertility and return to Mount Olympus. According to Tobin (187-200), Zeus worry was that there will be no offering for the gods. This went for one year but Zeus realized that all human will starve if Demeter was allowed to persist. Persephone was being abducted and that Zeus was involved, she declared hunger on earth and failed to return to Mount Olympus. Helius told them what happened but told Demeter that Hades was fit to marry Persephone an idea she refused to accept. They all went to sun’s god Helius to enquire since the god had an ability to see everything happening beneath the sun. On the tenth day, Demeter got information from goddess Hecate that Persephone was taken by someone but she didn’t know who the person was. Demeter threatened to launch her revenge on the earth and make it barren destroying all human kind if Persephone was not found. Demeter’s anger was high that she destroyed everything on the earth bewailing her lost daughter. The search took Demeter nine days and nights with no food, drink or even bathe and rest (Tobin 187-200). The goddess searched her everywhere, high and low and to every corner of the earth with vain. Hades took Persephone with him to the underground and made her his wife and the goddess of the underworld.Įvents happened after the kidnapping with Demeter coming to pick her daughter only to find that she was missing. The earth opened in front of Hades chariot for them to get through with the hole closing upon their entrance. Although the princess made some pleas to the companions and the mother to save her, no one heard them (LOCHHEAD’S, L. The event was so swift that no one among Persephone’s companions witnessed. Hades figuratively deflowered Persephone leaving the plain behind scattered with blossoms of every color. Hades had appeared in a four-horse chariot in the plains thundering and swopped the princess with one hand.

Antique Brass Cabinet Knob $21 (set of 4), 1.125″Īlso stunning but at a much more affordable price! I couldn’t stop picking up this knob in shock at the weight, the finish, and the price! 3. This is my way of justifying the price, haha but feel free to keep scrolling if it’s beyond what you’re willing to send. Oh, and it’s the only knob that comes with a separate, intricate backplate. It’s also the biggest brass knob we tested and is made of solid, burnished brass. And while they might be the prettiest cabinetry of all time, I’m slightly embarrassed at the price. We used these in our kitchen, and these knobs are the biggest cabinetry splurge we’ve made (like ever). I would say that if you like a touch of vintage, you can’t go wrong with any of these (all spherical) options! 1. In our kitchen, I really embraced aged brass hardware, which was the perfect way to add some vintage-like style to a more modern space. There are definitely good and bad examples of aged brass knobs. It’s made of zinc and plated in brass, which I guess explains the fair price, but you wouldn’t know just from holding it. This price is nearly too good to be true! I might actually prefer the more pinkish undertones of this round knob to the second one. They’re made of solid brass, just slightly smaller and a slightly “greener” tone. When the rejuvenation knob is sold out, I use my second favorite round knob, which is what we used in our closet renovation. My only critique is that it’s frequently sold out, which leads me to my second favorite ball-shaped knob. We used it in both the study and our last bathroom, and I’m certain we’ll use it again because it remains to be a classic. It’s solid unlacquered brass, and it’s the perfect size, shape, and brass finish. I love how it looks and feels, and it’s typically my go-to knob shape.įrom left to right. I’m pretty partial to a ball-shaped knob–a sphere, if you will. It’s worth noting that we were shocked at the substantial weight of all of these. To break it down even more, we categorized them all by likeness. The good news is that we found some really stunning hardware that aren’t much of a splurge at all. Gorgeous hardware can make your “ self-painted,” or IKEA cabinets look like a million bucks. One of my biggest design tips when it comes to stretching a renovation budget is to save money on your cabinetry and splurge on the hardware. The western façade of the building is still intact.Did you know that although it’s often omitted, the proper spelling in English still includes the accented ç? This French word used in English refers to the front face of a building. – J’ai encore la perceuse que tu m’as prêtée. – Les musiciens ont été rappelés pour 2 rappels.Įncore has a much broader meaning in French, and can translate to again, still, or yet.
Useful for short and simple tasks that require full root access.Provides complete root access to the user, allowing them to perform any task. However, configuring sudo can be complex and time-consuming, making it more suitable for larger organizations with complex security requirements. This level of granular control can help improve system security and reduce the risk of unauthorized access or accidental damage. While su is a simple command that switches to the root account, sudo is more customizable and configurable, allowing system administrators to grant specific permissions to users for performing certain tasks. Additionally, when the user completes the task, they return to their regular user account, reducing the risk of accidental damage.Īnother key difference between su and sudo is their level of configurability. This approach offers greater security and flexibility, as system administrators can grant specific permissions to users to perform certain tasks without granting them full root access. Instead, the user is prompted for their password and only gains the privileges granted to them by the system administrator. In contrast, sudo allows users to execute a command with elevated privileges without switching to the root account. Additionally, when the user completes the administrative task, they must remember to exit the root account to avoid causing unintended damage. This approach can be risky since any mistakes made while operating under root privileges can have severe consequences, such as deleting critical files or damaging the system. The su command works by switching to the root account, meaning the user has complete control over the system, including access to all files and directories. The primary difference between su and sudo lies in how they grant elevated privileges to users. Understanding the differences between the two is crucial for system administrators to choose the best option for their use case and ensure the security of their systems. The su command grants root access by switching to the root account, while sudo grants elevated privileges to a specified user without switching accounts. While both commands serve the same purpose, they have different ways of achieving them. This approach offers greater security since users cannot log in as root and can be granted specific permissions to perform certain tasks. Instead, users are prompted for their password, and if it is authorized, the command is executed with the privileges of the specified user, usually the root. On the other hand, the sudo command stands for “superuser do” and executes a command with elevated privileges without switching to the root account. When users run the su command and provide the correct root password, they are granted root access and can perform tasks with elevated privileges. The su command stands for "switch user" and is used to switch to another user account or the root account. In Linux and Unix systems, su and sudo allow users to perform tasks with elevated privileges, such as running system commands or installing software packages. This article will delve into the nuances of su vs sudo and guide on using them effectively. Knowing the differences between su and sudo and the best practices for using them is crucial for system administrators to keep their systems secure and efficient. While both commands are designed to provide root access to a user, they have different ways of achieving this goal and come with advantages and disadvantages. In Linux and Unix systems, the “su” (switch user) and “sudo” (superuser do) commands are commonly used to gain elevated privileges for performing administrative tasks. Security Considerations When Using su and sudo Tips and Best Practices for Using su and sudo List of content you will read in this article: Because the left bar is gone to make way for the child friendly pictures, the option menu now starts further to the right, covering more of what I am working on. More importantly though, look at the positioning. Now we have to click an extra button to open them: When you use a tool, in 2.79 the options would be instantly visible in the bottom left. And again, look at the amount of extra screen space we are covering for no good reason compared to 2.79s more compact design: And the best bit is images take up more screen space, so we have less tools there! This is flat out stupid. Added them in the wrong order? Tough shit you can’t reorder them without removing all those before.īut don’t worry, instead of the left hand toolbar having over 20 tools listed purely by name, we now have nameless icons that I have to mouse over to find out what they are. Oh and joy of joys, you need to re-add them all every time there is an update. It’s okay though, you now have your own quick favorites list. What is the logic behind this? What’s the point? But tools like sheer and mirroring options are there to stay? I, and I’m willing to bet most other people, use functions such as remove doubles and flip normals far more frequently. All those things I used all the time, you know like remove doubles, flip normals, shade smooth/flat - gone. I literally have to keep 2.79 installed just to bake AO (jokes I use 2.79 over 2.8 all the time). Cycles gives you this shitty noisy mess and takes a good 10 minutes to do it. Internal did it differently to cycles and the result was a really smooth AO map. Now you will have to create a material and add an image texture node with the image you want to bake to, select it, then click bake. In 2.7 you created an image, selected the object(s) and clicked bake - instant result by the way. To be specific let’s take the example of baking ambient occlusion. EEVEE was supposed to replace Blender Internal in every way when it comes to functions. Not everyone is using Blender to create renders in cycles. You have to create a material setup just to view a texture. Remember when you could just grab a mesh, load a texture and it appears in the viewport? You can’t anymore. It’s just plain stupid to have this at default. I know, I can change the background color, but guess what, I like the grey background at it’s current brightness, and I can’t change the mesh color. Left plane is harder to see no? And it gets worse as the angle increases. That makes sense right? Who wants their geometry to be clear and visibly distinct from the background? In fact the shading has changed the colors entirely, and the decision was made to make them closer to the background color. It is harder to model without this and it makes me wonder if the developers even tried working with 2.8. Then when you do have it on prepare to have your eyes burnt out. Which, by the way, while you can see the result in both edit and object mode, you can only turn it on in edit mode. If I want to see backfaces now I have to go and turn it on in the render options. It’s really difficult to tell because they removed an invaluable feature - backside faces being darker. The triangle area the arrows are pointing too, is that a face or a hole? Now there’s a slight give away in that there is a tiny visible difference because, silly me, I left AO on, but no there is no face. Taking a step back changes the way we analyze our goals and objectives. The second way in which fresh starts aid us is by allowing us to take a step back and see the bigger picture. For example, on the Monday after a particularly productive week, we may feel demotivated and think that we are not capable of repeating the same feat. If the chapter we are currently closing was a particularly good one our motivation levels may drop when we face a fresh start. With this in mind, it is important to make a small disclaimer regarding fresh starts. In addition, we actively attempt to stay on track in order to avoid ruining the clean slate. The feeling of starting over nudges us towards more goal-driven behaviours. This psychological separation of selves gives us the feeling of starting over on a clean slate which in turn boosts our motivation. (2014) “Individuals can selectively and spontaneously highlight temporal landmarks to regulate connections between temporal selves, typically to create distance with an undesirable version of themselves”. The two main reasons for this boost are the separation of our current selves from our past selves and the disruption of our focus on day-to-day minutiae.īy generating separate mental accounts for each time period, we relegate past mistakes to our former selves. The idea behind the fresh start effect is that a temporal landmark or special calendar date gives us a motivational boost. These include moving to a new place or transferring schools and are linked with establishing new, positive habits by breaking old ones. On the other side, there are those landmarks associated with changes in our environment. On one side they introduced those landmarks that provide us with the chance to renew our energy and motivation through breaks and relaxation, such as the day after a holiday or Mondays after the weekend. According to their findings, temporal landmarks should also include relevant life events, “such as developmental milestones, life transitions, first experiences, and occasions of recurrent significance” (Dai, Milkman and Riis).ĭai and Li (2019) furthered this definition by defining two types of temporal landmarks. However, Dai, Milkman and Riis (2014) stated that the feeling of starting anew encapsulates more than simply specific calendar dates. Up until recently, temporal landmarks were believed to include only given calendar dates, namely the start of a new year, a new month or even a new week. Temporal landmarks are a way of organizing experiences and memories. What is a temporal landmark?īefore diving into the topic of fresh starts let us take a look at what researchers refer to as “temporal landmarks”. Here we will take a closer look at what researchers have coined the “fresh start effect” and how it affects our everyday behaviours. Have you ever felt more motivated at the start of a new season or school year? Does the beginning of a new week give you the feeling of starting over? There are many reasons for you to be experiencing a renewal in your goal-driven attitudes at the passing of certain calendar dates or temporal landmarks. Of course, there’s nothing stopping you from trying out any of the fourteen weapons Monster Hunter Rise has on offer. Keeping track of these is way simpler than managing the Bowgun’s ammo variations. Another thing to consider with this weapon is the different types of ammo coating, each one adding damage or a bonus effect. You can weaken targets from afar with a steady stream of arrows, but in order to get the most out of the Bow you’ll need to learn a handful of combos and special attacks. There are three ranged weapons in the Monster Hunter series, the Bow being the simplest of the bunch. The Longsword also has a parry function, though you’ll need some monster hunting experience under your belt to master this bonus move. Using its wide reach your attacks will gradually fill a spirit meter that, once full, will allow you to unleash a deluge of advanced combos. This katana is easily one Monster Hunter’s flashiest weapons and has always been a fan favourite. If you’re familiar with other action-heavy video games then the Longsword learning curve shouldn’t be too much of a challenge. The hammer’s highest damage attacks can be slow and require a little bit of winding up, though it does have a decent amount of mobility. Consistently knocking a monster on the head will stun them for several seconds whereas hitting their legs can cause them to trip – a perfect opening for you and your teammates. Although it can’t block, this huge weapon makes up for it by dishing out a ton of stun damage. You shouldn’t always cower behind your shield, and you will want to take advantage of the many opportunities to launch powerful counter offensives when your target is vulnerable.Ī personal favourite of mine, the Hammer is all about blunt damage. What’s particularly beginner friendly about the Lance is how it lets you attack even with your guard up. Instead of swiping in wide arcs, the Lance is used to poke and prod away at a monster, allowing more precision. The Sword & Shield isn’t as powerful as the Greatsword but is much more nimble.Īnother original Monster Hunter weapon, the Lance is accompanied by a large shield to soak up damage. Eventually, you’ll want to learn how to perfectly evade monster attacks though blocking is a nice half-step, allowing you to stay relatively safe while learning the move patterns and behaviours of monsters. Only a handful of weapons in the Monster Hunter series allow you to block, the Sword & Shield being one. The Greatsword is one of the slowest of Monster Hunter’s fourteen weapon classes yet packs a devastating punch, especially when charging your strikes. Monster Hunter’s original mascot weapon, the Greatsword is a hulking, two-handed blade capable of dishing out massive damage while also allowing its wielder to block incoming attacks. In this guide we’ve put together a short list of beginner friendly weapons when starting out in Monster Hunter Rise. On top of that, there are weapons tagged with gauges, meters, and ammo counts, all of which can add a layer of unwanted complexity when starting out. Monster Hunter Rise – the best weapons for beginnersĮach weapon has its own unique sets of moves, some of which are simpler than others. In Monster Hunter Rise there are definitely certain weapons you should gravitate towards or avoid depending on your skill level and experience with the Monster Hunter series. Or maybe the Potplayer developer decided not to include them for some reason. I can't see similar commands in Potplayer's list of assignable shortcuts but maybe I'm missing them, or they've been renamed to something else. By default there's nothing assigned to them but I imagine it'd be easy enough to assign a couple of keys so switching between "video frame/normal" and "video frame/touch window from inside" etc would be nice and easy. PotPlayer 1. I had a look, and the video frame options are included in MPC-HC's list of available commands to which keyboard shortcuts can be assigned. PotPlayer 1.7 cheat sheet General F5 Preferences F6 Playlist F7 Control panel Ctrl + F1 Playback / System info F1 About Alt + F4 Exit Open F3 Open files Ctrl + U Open URL F2 Open folder. From there you can use the Ctrl key in combination with the keys on the numeric keypad to move the video up/down/sideways to view different parts of it if need be (given parts of it will extend beyond the screen edges). Its not so easy though, you have to add each one by one, so you can use these, just edit the ini. PotPlayer use non-standard hotkeys and its easy to brake something by mistake, so you can disable default hotkeys and create your own, just those you need. When it's set to "normal" the size of the player window won't be larger than the screen but the video within will be full resolution (assuming the default zoom is set to 100%). Try to right click - playback - speed - normal/last used. By default it's set to "touch window from inside" which means the maximum video size will be the size of the player window which will be at best the same as the screen resolution. Navigating through Potplayer's settings and finding what you want isn't always easy.Īnyway, for MPC-HC it's changed via the View/VideoFrame menu by selecting "normal size". MPC-HC has an option that seems to do what madbucky wants, but when the Potplayer developer ripped off most of MPC-HC's features he seemed to have decided not to include it. I think it also tends to remember it's last used window size so even if you're not opening a video sometimes it's window runs off the edge of the screen when you open it, unless maybe you open it maximised, but I dislike that behaviour as I find it quite frustrating. Once you’re familiar with them, you won’t need to touch your mouse while running PotPlayer, making it highly convenient. 0 Comments You can access the settings menu by clicking on the Tools menu entry at the top of the main interface. What would you possibly expect to happen if your source is 1920x1080, which at 100% is larger than your screen? It appears the OP would prefer the window/video size to be larger than the monitor. PotPlayer also comes with more hotkeys than VLC. I can understand any display issues with your screen only having 1600x900. |
