Wunderlist is a very useful productivity app for task management, especially if you’re on a budget. It works on Android, iOS, OS X, Windows, and Linux, with all the versions of the app having almost the same look-and-feel. You’ll agree with me that distractions are ever present in today’s world, and they may come in the form of a new trending topic on Twitter, new celebrity gossip on blogs, or a viral photo on Instagram, you name it. The illustrations and page designs are great. The Death Watch manifesto is printed on blue paper, giving us a visual representation of where the two sections meet. The pages are frayed to give it and old and weathered feeling. Like the other books in this series, it is needless to say that this book is beautiful. He says things like "Revenge is bad business" which puts a smile on my face every time because he's so greedy, egocentric, and uncaring, but likable at the same time. Mandalorians would proudly die in battle, Hondo would much rather run away. He is a man with no honor, charismatically commenting on Mandalorians who are the most honorable people in the galaxy. The best part of this entire book is Hondo's comments. Boba having a daughter is clearly a legends thing so don't get your panties in a bunch over it. Jango's comments are directed to his son Boba, and Boba's comments are directed to his daughter, Ailyn Vel. I am not sure how Aurra Sing and Hondo Ohnaka managed to get their hands on a Mandalorian text but I wouldn't put it past them as they are as skilled as they are greasy. ![]() ![]() General Solo clearly wasn't interested in this section, as he didn't bother add any comments. Notes appear from his father Jango Fett, bounty hunter Aurra Sing, and pirate Hondo Ohnaka. The Death Watch manifesto obviously has nothing to do with bounty hunting, but is in Boba's possession because of his Mandalorian ancestry. No respect is directed his way but it makes for a good chuckle. He seems to be the punching bag in this book. Anyway, everyone remembers Greedo? The dumb Rodian who managed to die at the hands of Solo. However, Han only adds two notes to this entire book. So basically you get the comments from various bounty hunters and a smuggler turned "Good Guy". General Solo of the New Republic decided to pickup this impounded book and add his two cents as well. Handwritten comments from bounty hunters Boba Fett, and previous owners (in order) Greedo, Bossk, and Dengar are seen throughout this section. That being said, this is a very good guide despite having a few conflicts with the canon.ĭengar gave a copy of the Bounty Hunter's Guild Handbook (Updated Imperial Edition) to Boba. I also must note that this is not part of the Star Wars canon. The New Republic searched his ship and found Boba's book that contains the Bounty Hunter's Guild Handbook and Ba'jurne Kyr'tsad Mando'ad, a Death Watch manifesto. If they needed metal tie rods, it may have been because their roof pitch wasn't steep enough to prevent speading. I think that it would be foolish to not have a (timber frame) engineer look at it.Īs Dave said, Hammerbeams are complicated! The term hammerbeam truss, is a bit of a misnomer, since there is no true trussing action going on in one of these. It's been a long time since I've looked at Chappell's book, but I would be reluctant to build straight out of the book. It's one of the few times that posts want to bend. There are a lot of hammer beam roofs in the US that have had steel tension rods added after they started to spread. Here is the late great Ed Levin's version, pulled straight out of 'The Open Timber Roofs of the Middle Ages,' The American bracing is spindly, and nothing close to an arch. I don't know where or how the elegant European version got turned into the monstrosity above. The Americanized version is a pretty tacky attempt at the same thing.Ĭompare that to Chilterns link below. It's worth noting, Chilterns, that those hammer beams sit on top of a masonry wall-one often several feet thick. ![]() I suspect the tv and interweb are wrong because they missed the little detail called proper construction. My question, is there a need for the tie-cable/buttress if the construction is done in the way described in Steve's book? Steve's explanation and math make sense and seem logical, but I am planning a sugar house where I will have 3 hammerbeam bents in the middle of the building with a king post bent on each end and want to make sure I'm not missing something. I saw the same thing when searching for hammerbeam designs on the interwebs. On the "Barnwood Builders" show they visit some resort by a manmade impoundment and in the one timberframe building the host is pointing out the hammerbeam construction (where the braces appear to enter at least half-way, or higher, up the pots) and states there must be tie-cables or buttressed walls. Nowhere does he state the need for a tie-cable or buttress type posts. The information contained in the book is equally accessible to both the novice looking to build their own timber frame, and to the Architect or Engineer looking for the latest technical information on this ever popular and ancient structural building system. In Steve Chappell's A Timber Framer's Workshop he covers hammerbeam truss construction and the need for the hammerbeam to be 2/3 the length of the post and that the lower brace should enter the lower third of the post. It's never giving you the same pieces in a differently shaped room and asking you to solve it again. Every set of puzzles explores a new idea or twists what you thought you already knew, very few puzzle games are able to do this. You have to explore the world and experiment to deduce its rules. The Witness drops you in a puzzle world and tells you to solve it. It strikes at the heart of what makes games great: learning about the game and getting a better understanding of the world. While I feel like TP is a cool puzzle game, The Witness is simply one of the best games. I cannot believe that as of writing this, 5 out of 5 people prefer Talos Principle to The Witness. Maybe their connection became apparent later, but there was nothing to make me want to find out. I unlocked a couple of the story(?) segments before I quit and got bored watching, since it just seemed to be random videos with no connection to anything. Even though different puzzles had different mechanics, it felt like I was doing the same thing over and over to the point of tedium. The environments are interesting and some of the puzzles are satisfying to complete, but I got very bored doing nothing but fill in squares with dots and lines. I love this style of puzzle game as well as sci-fi and philosophy, so when I found this game it felt like it had been made specifically to appeal to me! It also has a fascinating story to uncover that kept me hooked throughout and made me think. It was also a beautifully realised world from both a visual and audio perspective, giving it a sense of grandeur and wonder. The puzzles were clever, sometimes frustrating, but usually built on previous mechanics and used the world and environment in very interesting ways.
